Parents-in-Law of Scottish Minister Return Home after Gaza Conflict

Bittersweet Relief for Yousaf Family

Shared Family Photo Highlights Exodus from War-Torn Region

Scottish Health and Social Care Secretary Humza Yousaf has expressed bittersweet emotions upon the return of his parents-in-law after four harrowing weeks in the Gaza Strip. Yousaf and his wife Nadia shared a family photo on social media, celebrating the safe arrival of her parents, Elizabeth and Maged El-Nakla.

"What my family went through in Gaza—the blasts, hunger, and terror they've experienced—is unimaginable," Yousaf wrote in a statement. "I am so relieved and grateful that they have made it back safely."

Elizabeth and Maged El-Nakla were visiting relatives in Gaza when the recent conflict erupted on May 10. The family endured airstrikes, food shortages, and the constant threat of danger.

In a joint statement with Nadia El-Nakla, Yousaf confirmed the safe crossing of his in-laws into Israel. "We are so relieved and incredibly grateful that our family has been reunited," they wrote. "We want to thank everyone who has reached out with support and prayers."

The return of the El-Naklas brings closure to a period of immense anxiety for the Yousaf family. It also highlights the ongoing human toll of the conflict in Gaza, where hundreds of civilians have been killed and thousands injured.
