Green Receives High Marks Against UAPB; Real Test Coming

Another easy victory for the Golden Eagles

Southern Miss rolled past FCS foe Arkansas-Pine Bluff 62-7 Saturday at M.M. Roberts Stadium to win its second game of the season.

Southern Miss quarterback Ty Keyes didn't play due to an injury. But that didn't slow the Golden Eagles offense down.

Austin Reed Takes Over at Quarterback

Redshirt freshman quarterback Austin Reed started in place of Keyes and accounted for four touchdowns, three passing and one rushing.

With 10 minutes left in the third quarter and Southern Miss leading 55-0, Reed found Jaylond Adams for a 22-yard touchdown pass.

It put an exclamation point on an impressive win for the Golden Eagles.

Defense Continues To Impress

The Golden Eagles' defense continued to impress, limiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff to just 176 yards of offense.

Southern Miss also forced four turnovers, including two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Next Up: Troy

The Golden Eagles host Troy next Saturday at 4 p.m. at M.M. Roberts Stadium.

Troy is coming off a 28-10 win over Western Kentucky in its season opener.

Will UAPB be the Turning Point for the Season?

Southern Miss has now won two games against FCS opponents. But the real test comes next week against Troy.

If the Golden Eagles can beat Troy, it will give them a lot of confidence heading into the rest of the season.

But if they lose to Troy, it will be a major setback for the program.
